Plastic bags take 400 years to degrade and paper bags are energy and water hogs when it comes to manufacturing them. Now consider that stores hand out 14 billion plastic bags and 10 billion paper bags every year! Switching to reusable bags takes some behavior modification (ie remembering to bring them) but it's clearly do-able: Reusable bags are part of the culture in most of Europe and somehow we've all been able to make the leap to the no-bags shopping experience of Costco, BJ's etc. Hang in there !!
