FINAL FLOWER ARRANGING COMMITTEE MEETING MAY 7, 2010
Green Fingers ladies and several guests went "haute" at our final committee meeting. It was a truly gorgeous day at the Belle Haven club where the ballroom was all decked out for Ellen Avellino's fabulous lecture, " Hort Couture". In a presentation that Ellen has given all over the United States, she walked us through the development of Haute Couture clothing design - from the very earliest designers to current fashion icons. And with each design she showed us a flower arrangement that used the same elements of elegant line, form, texture, shape and color.
With fashion and floral images juxtaposed, the presentation underscored that, in their respective Creations, the French Couturier and the Floral Designer speak a Common Visual Design Language.
Ellen's photos and research were a product of her work with the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she was able to secure amazing shots of models from past to present.
The lecture was followed by a lovely lunch overlooking the water. And then more fun.
The program ended with a hands-on workshop where each of us were given luscious flowers and asked to create our own Haute Design. The results were amazing as you can see from the pictures. As we completed our masterpieces, Ellen discussed each arrangement, both with a judge's eye and a healthy dose of practical advice.
It was a day to remember.... the perfect ending to a wonderful season. Thank you Ellen and BRAVO !
