Who search their borders every night,
And catch their slugs by candle-light;
Who always start at crack of dawn
To dig plantains from their lawn;
Whose paths are always free from weeds;
Whose plants are always grown from seeds;
Who are most careful not to prune
That standard rose a day too soon;
Who are quite rude to men who sell
Tobacco plants that have no smell;
In fact, to all of you, I mean:
Whose fingers are reputed green
Because you keep you borders clean.

Reginald Arkell was a British script writer and comic novelist who wrote many musical plays for the London theatre. He was born on 14
October 1882 at Lechlade, Gloucestershire, England, was educated at Burford Grammar School and married actress Elizabeth Arkell. He
died on 1 May 1959 at Cricklade, England.
